River Area

Encounter a fragrant black tea at Kawane Honcho

Kawane Honcho is a world precious eco-preserved area located in the upper stream of the Oigawa River with its aquifers from the Southern Japan Alps. The suitable climate has endeared some tea farmers and master tea makers to produce original cultivars skillfully by hand for generations. Etsuro Masui—a 5th-generation of the Masui-en Tea Farm that dates back to the samurai period—is a tea master who meticulously grows chemical- and pesticide-free leaves.

The rich, deep taste of his black tea has gained fans around the world as a tea with one of the best aromas brought out by his artisanship and has even won many awards. Although there are some other excellent tea producing areas throughout the world, a sip of the Kawane Honcho single-origin black tea and other kinds like a wilted green tea are guaranteed to delight your taste buds.

Visit the Tea Farm Masui-en to experience perfect rows of tea leaves growing in harmony with the nature that surrounds them. By using less fertilizer and no chemicals or pesticides, Masui-en draws out the individual flavor in every single leaf. It’s an unforgettable taste that will leave a lasting impression.
