Marushichi Seicha Honten
Shizuoka DowntownEncountering the past and present of Japanese tea along the old Tokaido road
「Fujieda-juku is an old post station on the Tokaido highway where many travelers passed through since the Edo period. At the entrance stands Marushichi Seicha Honten, a single-storey building operated by a long-established tea wholesaler dating back to the late Meiji period. With expertise and skills cultivated over many years, it is a place to gain a deeper understanding of tea culture and the history of the region.
「The building is a traditional house over 100 years old that was relocated and restored from within the city.
「A painting depicting the kabuki play “Fujimusume,” named after Fujieda, adorns the interior. From the cafe space on the second floor, the pine tree-lined avenue of the old Tokaido Road, designated as a Japanese Heritage site, can be seen.
Enjoy Japanese tea brewed in a drip style using leaves meticulously selected by a certified Japanese tea sommelier, along with a wide variety of menu items featuring Japanese tea. With a cup of tea, relax and enjoy the view while imagining the travelers of days gone by at this unique place.
「The shop offers a diverse selection of Japanese teas, including bottled tea.
Much like visiting a winery, you can try a selection of teas of your choosing to find your favorites.
「Enjoy Japanese tea with all five senses at an ideal place to stop by during your travels.
