Sansuien

Mountain Area

The Tochizawa area has been home to tea farmers since the Edo era (1603–1867). In 1980, Sansuien opened its doors (and porch) to serve tea and is thought to be the pioneer of the "porch cafe" idea. We use fresh spring water, along with tea leaves rich with nutrients from the local area, to brew a delicious cup of tea known as "the tea of the mountain." It is truly a taste you cannot experience anywhere else.

Many tea fans gather here multiple times a year for different tea ceremonies held.

Access

  • 30 minutes on foot from the Tateishi bus stop on the Shizutetsu bus (Warashina Line).
