Where the history and future of Suruga connect

Suruga's traditional crafts have been handed down since the Imagawa and Tokugawa periods, and we can still enjoy various craft experiences such as Suruga bamboo crafts, Japanese dyeing, woodwork, lacquer, and ceramics, which have been carefully handed down from generation to generation.

We recommend "Ochazome," which is a cross between "ocha" (tea) and "Suruga Wazome," a dyeing technique that has been long rooted in this region from ancient times. Tannin components contained in tea leaves are used to develop colors, allowing you to create your own original dyes. Tea leaves that are not used for products are used lavishly as dyes, and the boiled tea leaves are recycled as compost.

After your experience, you can purchase souvenirs in a space gorgeously decorated with crafts such as "Suruga Bamboo Senzuji-zaiku" and timber. In addition, at café "HACHI & MITSU," visitors can enjoy food and drinks made with honey from the Muramoto Apiary, locally produced in Maruko, and other ingredients produced within the prefecture.

The district also plays a central role in Suruga’s local tourism thanks to its excellent connections to east and west Japan via the Shinkansen (high speed rail) line, JR Tokaido local train line, Tokaido Highway and Mt. Fuji Shizuoka International Airport.
