Yamakasho Tea Farm

River Area

A tea farm where people live in harmony with nature

Yamakasho Tea Farm has been particular about preserving the traditional methods of caring for  their tea fields that are located at the foot of the 3,000-m-high Southern Japan Alps.

With a unique combination of natural gifts that include clean air, moisture from the upstream Oigawa River, and mountain mist are the key ingredients to growing the unique local tea leaves with a distinctive elegant aftertaste as well as clear, refreshing flavor. It is thanks to all of these qualities that the local green tea from Yamakasho Tea Farm has been designated as worthy to be presented to the Emperor of Japan.

Guests are invited to taste green tea at the farm stand and many who have tasted the tea were surprised by its unique taste and how easy it was to drink. This tasting is followed by a guided tour of their tea processing factory. After the tour, unrefined green tea (aracha) fresh from storage is served on the veranda of a traditional Japanese farmhouse.
