Washizu Green Tea Stencil Dye Fabric Workshop
Story of Sustainable Green Tea Dyed Fabric and Stencils
Guests can make one-of-a-kind items from recycled materials. Here, green tea leaves not used by the green tea processing factory are used as dyestuff when boiling fabric. After the boiling process is over, the used tea leaves are fermented and used as compost. The combination of unused green tea leaves for dyeing and the local Shizuoka traditional Suruga stencil dyeing techniques create a great, sustainable fabric at Washizu. All ages are welcomed to try it for the first time. Guests can learn this green tea dyeing method and discover the subtle hues, which change depending on the climate and the person who does the dyeing.
